At the Southern Power Corporation (Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC), digital transformation has been continuously implemented over many years and further accelerated following the issuance of Resolution No. 57. As of September 2026, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC had completed all 22 out of 22 framework tasks under Ä¢¹½´«Ã½â€™s overall digital transformation scheme. Notably, many research outcomes and technological applications have not only been implemented within the Corporation but have also been recognized by Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ and disseminated for other power sector units to study and replicate.

According to Mr. Bui Quoc Hoan, Deputy General Director of Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC, the implementation of Resolution No. 57 at the Corporation builds on the digital transformation achievements accumulated in previous years. This provides an important foundation for Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC to gradually introduce new technologies, particularly artificial intelligence (AI), to address practical challenges in power system management and operation.
Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC has focused on developing a data platform for power grid management. To date, all equipment records and technical specifications for equipment on the 110kV, medium-voltage, and low-voltage grids have been digitized in the PMIS system. Operating parameters are monitored online, enabling technical staff to track equipment conditions and address any abnormalities that arise.
Notably, 100% of Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC’s 110kV substations, totaling 245 substations, are operating under an unmanned model and are remotely monitored and controlled through control centers. This marks a significant shift from traditional operating methods to centralized management, helping improve labor productivity, reduce on-site manual operations, and make more efficient use of human resources.
In addition, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC has made a major shift from time-based equipment maintenance to maintenance and repairs based on actual operating conditions. Through Condition-Based Maintenance (CBM) and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), units can assess equipment conditions, identify potential failure risks, and proactively select the appropriate timing for repairs instead of carrying out maintenance uniformly at fixed intervals.

According to Mr. Bui Quoc Hoan, during the 2024-2025 period alone, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC assessed the operating conditions of tens of thousands of 110kV devices, more than 380,000 Level 1 medium-voltage devices and over 23,400 Level 2 devices. As a result, 862 cases of abnormalities, including broken insulators, oil leaks, high grounding resistance, and non-compliant technical parameters, were detected and promptly addressed.

One of Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC’s notable achievements has been the gradual integration of artificial intelligence into technical operations, moving beyond isolated research projects or pilot trials. In 2025, two of the Corporation’s AI application projects were recognized by Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ and disseminated for replication across the Group.
In addition, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC has deployed unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) integrated with AI to inspect power lines and power grid safety corridors at all of its affiliated Power Companies. Using images captured by UAVs, the system can help identify insulation defects, potential encroachments on power line corridors, and abnormalities on 110kV lines.
As a result, compared with manual inspections, the UAV–AI solution has reduced grid inspection time by 59%, cut labor requirements by 48% and increased defect detection capability by up to 41%.
Beyond saving time and labor, the solution also reduces the need for workers to climb power poles or access hazardous locations, thereby improving occupational safety. These benefits demonstrate that the value of innovation is measured not only in economic efficiency but also in its ability to improve working conditions and ensure worker safety.
Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC has also sustained its movement for scientific research and technical improvement initiatives across the Corporation. During the 2023–2025 period, the Corporation recognized 587 initiatives at the corporate level, including 26 recognized at the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ level, and accepted 37 science and technology projects. In 2026 alone, 87 initiatives and research projects were registered online through Ä¢¹½´«Ã½â€™s science and technology management system.
Building on these achievements, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC continues to implement research tasks supporting power grid management and operation. These include developing algorithms to detect electricity losses, creating tools to retrieve equipment information from the PMIS system, and applying AI to analyze load data. The Corporation has also completed software for estimating the remaining service life of 110kV transformers based on the technical indicators of insulating oil, providing an additional tool to support equipment condition assessment and maintenance planning.

The Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC customer service ecosystem currently has more than 4.57 million customers using its customer service application and Zalo Official Account (OA), processing over 500,000 online transactions annually, with an on-time resolution rate exceeding 99.9%. These results not only save customers time and transaction costs but also help improve information transparency, service quality, and convenience for electricity users.

In construction investment, the Corporation has implemented all 22 software modules of IMIS 2.0 in an integrated manner, while adopting electronic construction logs, electronic acceptance records and UAV-based surveying technology. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has been applied to 110kV projects, while more than 1.1 million materials, equipment items, and tools have been labeled with QR codes to support lifecycle management.
Notably, these data platforms and digital management systems proved effective during Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC’s organizational restructuring in 2025. The reorganization from 21 provincial and municipal Power Companies into eight Power Companies, in alignment with the two-tier local government model, was carried out while maintaining uninterrupted electricity supply and customer services.
Digital transformation has also contributed to improving power system operational performance. During the first nine months of 2026, Ä¢¹½´«Ã½SPC’s System Average Interruption Duration Index (SAIDI) stood at 140.07 minutes, 69.93 minutes below the target assigned by Ä¢¹½´«Ã½. The number of incidents on the 110kV grid fell to six, down by 19 cases compared with the same period in 2025. The power loss rate reached 3.50%, a decrease of 0.20 percentage points year-on-year.
These achievements have made an important contribution to the Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ Group’s overall digital transformation efforts. Ä¢¹½´«Ã½ has attained Level 4 digital transformation maturity, with an assessment score of 81.89%. Meanwhile, the application of digital platforms, automation, AI, big data and other emerging technologies has helped the Group save an estimated more than VND 3 trillion annually.
